QUETTA: Even 11 years after its completion, a public hospital built at a cost of over one billion rupees in the Ghousabad area of Quetta could not be made functional.
Named after former Prime Minister Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, the hospital was constructed in 2011 during the regime of Nawab Aslam Raisani and completed in 2013. Despite its completion, the hospital has not been made operational so far.
As the building of the non-functional hospital had become drug edicts’ den, a group of social workers converted it into a library recently.
Sources say that that the primary reason for non-functionality of the hospital is location of the building which can’t be accessed by ambulances and other vehicles due to surrounding structures.
Area residents have announced a protest against the hospital's prolonged inactivity.
