KARACHI: The highly anticipated two-day "MeDeCon 2025" International Medical & Dental Conference, themed “Educate, Innovate, Heal,” officially opened today at Karachi Metropolitan University (KMU). The inaugural ceremony, held at the university’s Ishtiaque Auditorium, saw a dynamic gathering of scholars, experts, students, and healthcare professionals from various disciplines, all united to explore the latest advancements in the medical and dental fields.

Chaired by Prof. Dr. Syed Shah Faisal, the conference brings together a wealth of knowledge, with Prof. Dr. Riffat Rasool serving as the Secretary and Prof. Dr. Nasir Khan heading the Scientific Committee. Dr. Wasim Qazi, the Vice Chancellor of KMU, graced the opening ceremony as the chief guest, emphasizing the university’s commitment to promoting academic excellence and fostering innovation in healthcare.

In his welcome speech, Dr. Shah Faisal emphasized that the conference aimed to familiarize students with the format of scientific conferences and provide guidance on how to prepare and present scientific posters for international events. He also recognized the hard work and dedication of the faculty and organizing committee, acknowledging their crucial role in making this successful international conference possible in such a short time.

The opening day featured a highly informative career counseling session titled “A Guide to Career Success,” led by Dr. Syed Taimoor Asif, Assistant Professor of Cardiac Surgery at NICVD. Attendees were then engaged in a series of thought-provoking research sessions presented by renowned experts, including Dr Farhan Raza, Professor, Operative Dentistry-Endodontics and head of Dentistry, Aga Khan University and Dr. Asad Khan Dharapariya, who discussed topics such as balancing medical education with practical experience and leveraging AI for enhanced research.

Following the inaugural ceremony, participants enjoyed a networking tea break and took part in a vibrant poster competition. Noteworthy sessions throughout the day included Dr. Najeeb Saad’s lecture on prosthodontics, Dr. Shoaib Haider’s insights into endodontics, and Dr. Saifyan Ahmed’s presentation on oral squamous cell carcinoma.

The conference also tackled cutting-edge topics like managing obstructive sleep apnea in general dental practice, cleft care in Pakistan, and the role of CD markers in chronic periodontitis. Among the distinguished speakers were Dr. Muhammad Ashraf Ganatra and Prof. Dr. S. M. Balaji, who offered their expertise on a variety of pressing issues in the medical and dental fields.

After a lunch and prayer break, the event resumed with sessions focused on orthodontics, periodontics, and endodontics, featuring prominent experts such as Dr. Irfan Qamaruddin and Dr. Abdullah Kamran.

MeDeCon 2025 aims to serve as a platform for knowledge-sharing and collaboration among healthcare professionals, solidifying KMU’s position as a leading center for academic excellence and innovation in medical and dental sciences.
