KARACHI- Sindh Minister for Health and Population Welfare, Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho recently met with the Speaker of Sindh Assembly and other parliamentarians, in order to discuss the ‘Stop TB and TB Control Program’ at the Sindh Assembly, where more than 30 members of Sindh Assembly were present.
The legislators were informed by the members of Stop TB Pakistan, as they presented the current status of TB cases seen across the province of Sindh, with hopes of further facilitating the program to end Tuberculosis.
As per the agreement signed by the member states at United Nations General Assembly during the high level TB Meeting, Dr Azra Pechuho endorsed the process of developing a multi-sectoral responsibility framework to end TB.
She urged the fellow parliamentarians to join hands with the Health Department and Civil Society Organizations STP to actively participate in eliminating TB from our society.
Furthermore, Dr Azra Pechuho urged the technical and development partners to come forward and assist the government in this cause.
Speaker Sindh Assembly Agha Siraj Durrani, Deputy Speaker Rehana Laghari, fellow parliamentarians, USAID Representative, National TB Program, Director TB Control Sindh and representatives of STOP TB and public sector were present at this occasion.
Parliamentarians acknowledged the efforts of Sindh Government and assured to support this cause of great importance.
Whilst concluding the meeting, Speaker Sindh Assembly stressed upon the role of members in their respective constituencies, by emphasizing over the need of establishing a monitoring framework for the parliamentarians.
