The Art of Storytelling; Fading Away from Society!

KARACHI- Renowned storyteller Mr. Fawad Khan, appeared as a Chief Guest at Dow University of Health Sciences’ Guest Speaker session. This program was held at Moin Auditorium, Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS).

He expressed his views regarding Storytelling and how it has become little to none in our society, and that we need to promote the storytelling culture and bring it into practice, to enhance listening and speaking power within the society.

Mr. Fawad then moved on to explaining the Persian style of storytelling, which was evolved from the great empire of Akbar and with the unordinary increasing interest in the people of Lucknow, storytelling was officially started in Urdu language on regular basis.

Furthermore, he added that after the boom of electronic and social media, the possibility of live storytelling has almost gone in despair but it should be revived and promoted by our media so that the public would built their interest into it again. According to him, storytelling can highlight different aspects of life, whilst raising awareness over many social issues prevailing in our society.

Mr. Fawad Khan shared one of the tales from Caesar, Mata Hari and Mirza’s story by Mushtaq Ahmad Yusufi.

The story revolved around a dog which was brought from abroad for its kind nature and loyalty towards his master’s protection. The story concluded with the sad demise of the dog who spent his last days in dire weakness, and died while playing with children, by relentlessly getting into the wheels of a speedy car.

He then correlated the story with that of our society’s conditions, as to how the life of this dog was close to that of a common man, who spends and lives his whole life working and earning to look after his family. But at the end, no one’s left behind to take care of him, and none can be seen grieving over his demise.

He got a standing ovation and the story was admired by the audience as it beautifully highlights the societal attitude, benefits and problems faced by the communities.

The session was joined by the Principal, Dow Medical College (DMC) Prof Dr. Kartar Diwani, senior faculty members and a big crowd of students.
