DNA samples of Jacobabad rape victim, accused match

KARACHI: The case of the sexual assault of a polio worker in Jacobabad witnessed a major development as DNA tests confirmed a match between the samples from the victim and the accused.
According to police sources, the DNA evidence directly links the accused, Ahmed Jakhrani, to the crime, while three other suspects, including the victim's husband, have been arrested for threatening her.
The SSP revealed that the victim’s brother-in-law and nephew were also involved in issuing threats. A case has been registered against all four suspects, he added.
The victim, who was abducted and sexually assaulted at Allah Bakhsh Jakhrani village, had earlier released a video statement detailing her ordeal. She recounted how an armed man took her at gunpoint to a house where three masked men were waiting. She was tortured, and one of the men sexually assaulted her.
In her statement, the victim said no one came to her aid, and it was only after her attackers left that she was able to escape. She further accused the police of attempting to coerce her into altering her testimony but reaffirmed her trust in the courts to deliver justice.
The victim also revealed that her husband took their two daughters away following the assault, citing reasons of family honour. However, the court has since returned custody of the children to her.
She expressed fears for her safety, citing threats from her husband, in-laws, and their associates. While Ahmed Jakhrani has been arrested, she appealed for the arrest of the remaining three suspects and sought protection.
