KARACHI: A robber snatched a gold necklace from a young doctor in the premises of the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) of the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK).
Sources at the CHK stated that the robber entered the MICU of Civil Hospital Karachi around 08:15 pm last night and grabbed the house officer by her neck and took away her gold necklace. She was alone in the ward, and there was no security guard present at that time.
Similarly, two weeks back, a patient expired in the ICU of the Neurology Ward, and the patient's attendants tortured the doctors and staff on duty and damaged the ventilator of the ICU as well.
No FIR has been lodged by the CHK administration as yet.
A spokesman of the Young Doctors Association (YDA) Sindh said that female doctors are unsafe during their calls and mobs like these can be a serious threat to them as the security provided to on-call doctors is next to none.
This story is not unheard of as such incidents keep happening year after year at the CHK. The administration of the CHK continues to ignore these issues as per the usual. The issue concerning the security of doctors is never given a priority by the CHK’s administration. This could have happened to any female doctor.
The YDA urged all the doctors of the CHK to assemble at the Medical Superintendent’s (MS) Office to protest for their rights and address the security issues of our doctor fraternity within the CHK.
