A senior police officer suspects that the rape of a minor girl by a villager earlier this month was a hate crime because her uncle and cousin forced her to ingest poison.

Police in Madhya Pradesh's Rajgarh district says that a 17-year-old rape survivor was killed by her maternal uncle and his son.

According to a senior police officer, the uncle and cousin of the underage girl who was raped earlier this month by a villager pushed her to swallow poison.

As a result of a complaint from the girl's father and an investigation by Khilchipur police station, the two suspects, aged 48 and 22, were arrested on Saturday, Mukesh Gaud, in charge of Khilchipur police station, said.

According to a senior officer in the investigation, the girl's cousin informed the police that they killed her because she had defamed his family in the hamlet.
