KARACHI – Sindh Health Minister Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar has directed the concerned officials to launch a province-wide campaign against malaria and dengue, particularly in Karachi and Hyderabad, and in this regard he instructed the secretary health to immediately release the funds required for the drive.
He also directed the officials that they should specifically carry out spray against malaria and dengue in slums and less privileged areas.
He gave these directives while presiding over a meeting of health department’s officials. It was attended, among others, by Secretary Health Dr Saeed Ahmed Mangnejo, Dengue Control Programme’s project manager Dr Masood Solangi, Malaria Control Programme’s project manager Dr Naheed Jamali and director of GAMBAT Institute of Medical Sciences Dr Rahim Bux Bhatti.
Stressing the need for creating awareness about dengue and malaria viruses among masses, the minister urged the concerned officials to distribute pamphlets in both the public and private sector educational institutions of the province.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the performance of malaria control programme, Mr Dahar directed the programme’s project manager to improve performance of his organization and submit a weekly report to him.
He also asked director of GAMBAT institute of medical sciences to ensure that residents of the interior Sindh and Balochistan must get all treatment facilities at the institute as such a move will help reduce number of patients in hospitals of Karachi.
At the outset of the meeting, the minister directed the officials to make all wards of North Nazimabad Children Hospital functional so as to provide better healthcare facilities to the people of the area.
