GENEVA: A senior World Health Organization (WHO) official has expressed deep concern over the possibility of an outbreak of polio and other diseases in Gaza.
Ayadil Saparbekov, WHO’s head of health emergencies in the occupied Palestinian territories, mentioning the detection of poliovirus in the area's sewage system, warned that communicable diseases could potentially cause more deaths than injuries caused by war in the region.
He also noted that the number of people in Gaza needing evacuation for medical care might have risen to 14,000.
