KARACHI: The Health Services Department of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) recently decided to make the Maxillofacial Surgery Department at Sarfaraz Rafiqui Shaheed (SRS) Hospital operational soon.
According to the notification, there is a severe shortage of surgical professionals primarily in the specialty of Maxillofacial Surgery in KMC-run health facilities.
It was decided that groups of maxillofacial residents would be posted at the Rafique Shaheed Hospital. These residents will be supervised by senior doctors, Dr Zahid Ali and Dr Sufyan Ahmed, consultants from the Maxillofacial Surgery Department at the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for the OPD and operation theater.
Senior Director, Medical & Health Survives, KMC, Dr Birbal Genani, informed that the Maxillofacial Surgery Department would be made functional very soon at the SRS Hospital. He further told that a surgeon and anesthesiologist would also be posted at the SRS Hospital to resume surgeries in the health facility.
