KARACHI- The management of Dr. Ruth Pfau, Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) has launched a crackdown against illegal electricity connection in order to stop power theft from the health facility, resulting in removal of 100 illegal connections during a 3-hour long operation.
The CHK administration, in collaboration with K-electric and law enforcement agencies launched this operation.
It was found that, during the crackdown it was discovered that certain employees were allegedly supplying the hospital’s electricity to some nearby commercial markets and residents living in the adjoining areas, through illegal connections under the patronage of certain corrupt officials of the facility.
CHK’s Additional Medical Superintendent, Dr. Arif Niaz stated that, strict action against illegal power theft has been initiated to stop such malpractice. He added that, this investigatory drive would help in saving millions of rupees annually and that money would be utilized and used for the development and welfare of patients. Removal of illegal electricity connections will help to control tripping and electricity fluctuation, which could cause damage to costly medical equipment.
