LAHORE: Mayo Hospital Lahore, one of Punjab's largest public sector teaching hospitals with over 2,600 beds, is grappling with significant equipment malfunctions that are severely impacting patient care. According to the sources, hospital's MRI and CT scan machines have been non-operational for an extended period, compelling medical staff to refer patients to private laboratories for essential diagnostic tests. This situation imposes a substantial financial burden on patients, particularly those from low-income backgrounds.

Sources further told that, the CT scan machine in the Emergency Ward has been out of order for several years, leading to critical delays in diagnosing emergency cases. Consequently, numerous patients are being redirected to other healthcare facilities, further straining the region's medical infrastructure.

These equipment failures are part of a broader crisis at Mayo Hospital, which includes shortages of medicines, closure of several wards, and suspension of various diagnostic services. The cumulative effect of these issues is a marked decline in the quality of patient care and increased out-of-pocket expenses for those seeking treatment.
