Vacant Posts in Hospitals Hindering Healthcare Delivery

Karachi- The matter of numerous vacant positions of doctors and paramedical staff in government hospitals reached the Sindh High Court, where a two member bench was assigned to hear the plea and seek reply from the respondents from the Government of Sindh, looking after the health sector.

The petitioner informed the High Court regarding the delay in Sindh Government’s reply in terms of the issue pertaining to lack of doctors in hospitals of Karachi, Shikarpur, Tharparkar, Sukkur, Badin, Thatta and Larkana.

According to the petitioner, vacant positions included those of Cardiologists, Gynaecologists, Child Specialists, Paramedics and others.

It was also revealed that currently, certain hospitals of the province of Sindh are facing shortage of approximately 2100 doctors, which is why patients are being faced with numerous difficulties.

The court has adjourned the hearing till 4th of February, 2019.
