Nimrah, aged 21, daughter of Ajaz Baig, sustained bullet injuries on Friday during an exchange of fire between the police and suspected robbers in the city’ North Karachi area.
According to the police, two robbers, Riaz Malik, and his accomplice were fleeing after committing a robbery near North Karachi’s Anda Morr. A police team chased the fleeing robbers on which the robbers opened fire on police team. In retaliatory firing, the robber, Riaz Malik got killed on the spot, while his accomplice was left injured.
During the shootout, however, a passing student, Nimrah, also sustained bullet injuries and was subsequently rushed to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for treatment where she succumbed to her injuries.
According to the police, the deceased girl was struck with a bullet fired by the robbers.
While talking to the media, SSP Central, Arif Aslam Rao, said that the police would find out who fired the bullet that killed Nimrah. He informed that an impartial investigation would be conducted and the findings will be shared with the public.
“We are waiting for the final post-mortem report and the forensic evidence from the crime scene, which we will examine along with the rounds collected from the scene," the police official added.
JPMC lady doctor, Dr Shakila, said that numerous x-rays and CT scans were done on the girl yet the bullet could not be found in the body.
According to Dr Shakila, Nimrah suffered head damage owing to skull bone breakage.
