Many people throng DUHS-DICE Health Exhibition

KARACHI - The `First All Pakistan DUHS-DICE Health Exhibition’ which concluded here provided a platform to medical, biomedical and engineering students to showcase their innovations and technologies, share knowledge and collaborate for rapid development of innovative products required for the country’s economic development.

The two-day exhibition organized by Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) in collaboration with DICE, USA, at the Expo Centre, was inaugurated by Pakistan Council for Science and Technology’s (PCST) chairman Dr Anwar-ul-Haqi Gilani in the presence of DUHS vice chancellor Prof Masood Hameed Khan and senior faculty members.

It was largely visited by health professionals, medical, engineering and biomedical students.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Gilani said it was evident to even a common man that Dow University was not only focusing on academic enhancement by updating curriculum of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, but it was also focusing on research and innovative work. Establishment of Dow Research Institute of Bio-technology and Bio-Sciences (DRIBBS) was the example of the university’s keen interest in innovation, he added.

Dr. Khurshid Abbasi of the DICE said that the exhibition was a combined blend of competition, scientific sessions and continued medical education programme.

Students working in the field of medical, engineering, biomedical showcased their projects, while Dow University also showcased its innovations.

The exhibition’s chairperson Prof. Dr Rana Qamar Masood said that with a view to fostering culture of innovation and entrepreneurship in the country, DUHS has also signed a MoU with DICE USA on Aug 20.

The exhibition was followed by a CME programme. Prof. Raza-ur- Rahman spoke on innovation in teaching, training and current practice in mental health at DUHS. Prof. Iqbal Afridi gave a brief talk on innovations in medicine and Dr S. Imran Ahmed spoke on innovation in physical medicine and rehabilitation.
