KARACHI: The Young Doctors Association (YDA) Sindh condemn the extrajudicial killing of Dr. Shahnawaz over false blasphemy accusations and the leak of the MDCAT exam paper.
During an emergency Zoom meeting, YDA members expressed deep grief and outrage, declaring Monday as a Black Day, announcing they will wear black ribbons in protest over the killing of their colleague.
They demanded the immediate suspension and prosecution of the police officers involved in Dr. Shahnawaz’s killing.
The YDA Sindh has called on the health minister to form an inquiry committee for a transparent investigation into the MDCAT paper leak.
They also demanded the suspension of the vice chancellor, accusing him of incompetence and dishonesty in safeguarding the integrity of the examination process.
On Tuesday, YDA Sindh, along with the Human Rights Council, plans to visit Dr. Shahnawaz's family to offer condolences.
They are calling for all doctors in Sindh to gather on Sunday in the village of Dr. Shahnawaz to hold a funeral prayer in absentia.
The victim’s family has appealed to the Sindh chief minister for protection and demanded immediate suspension of the Umerkot SSP to address the false blasphemy accusations against the family.
The YDA Sindh has also called for life imprisonment for the police officers responsible for Dr. Shahnawaz’s brutal treatment, noting that he was a Muslim suffering from a mental disorder, and deserved a fair judicial process rather than the extrajudicial measures taken against him.
