ISLAMABAD: Seeking an urgent report on the surge in polio cases countrywide, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed relevant authorities to formulate a comprehensive strategy to tackle the issue.
The PM expressed his concern during a recent federal cabinet meeting, stressing the need for immediate action against polio.
The meeting also addressed several key issues, including the Domestic Violence (Prevention and Protection) Bill 2024, proposing legislation to create a framework to combat domestic violence to ensure offenders are punished and victims receive necessary support.
The bill has been forwarded to the Cabinet Committee on Legislative Cases for further review.
The cabinet also approved the appointments of Lt. Gen (retd) Moazzam Ijaz, Engineer Fahim Iqbal, and Asim Shahryar as private members of the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission Board, following a recommendation from the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training.
The cabinet asked the law ministry to handle applications under the Claims for Maintenance (Recovery Abroad) Act of 1959. Pakistan ratified the Convention on the Recovery Abroad in 1956, with the related ordinance being enacted the same year.
Furthermore, Dr Shafia Arshad was appointed as chairperson of the National Council for Tibb, alongside members Dr Rizwan Asif, Muhammad Khurshid Alam, Ikramullah, Moinuddin, and Dr Attaullah, besides approving the restructuring of the Pharmacy Council of Pakistan, as proposed by the Ministry of National Health.
