ISLAMABAD: Federal health ministry has officially confirmed the presence of poliovirus in sewage samples obtained from the Lasbela district of Balochistan.
According to health ministry sources, Type-1 Wild Poliovirus (WPV1) was identified in sewage samples collected from Lasbela district.
Genome sequencing of the virus found in samples from Lasbela and Hub revealed its origin in Gadap, Karachi.
The ministry had previously confirmed the presence of poliovirus in environmental samples from nine districts across the country.
As per the ministry spokesperson, the virus was detected in one sample each from Quetta, Mastung, Multan, Peshawar, Nowshera, and Hub.
