KARACHI- An introductory meeting of Sindh Employees Social Security Institution (SESSI) was recently held at its headquarters, in Karachi, under the chairmanship of the Provincial Minister for Labor and Human Resources, Mr. Ghulam Murtaza Baloch.
While addressing the members, Mr. Ghulam Murtaza stated that a Burns Center will soon be established to facilitate burn victims, belonging to different factories and workshops. He added that their top most priority is to improve the provision of medical facilities in all hospitals and medical centers running under Sindh Employees Social Security Institution (SESSI).
The meeting was also attended by the members of the governing body of SESSI, and administrative officers.
Commissioner SESSI, Mr. Gulzar Shaikh briefed the Provincial Minister regarding the performance and working of the institution. He informed that there were 650,000 registered workers and 3,500,000 dependents. He added that their institute’s main goals were to provide proper medical care and cash benefits to the workers, followed by creating a professional and sustainable environment for them.
The Social Security Scheme is formed to provide benefits to employees and their dependents in the events of sickness, injury, death, iddat, maternity, disablement pension, survivors’ pension, and matters ancillary thereto.
Medical Advisor SESSI, Mr. Mumtaz Ali Shaikh briefed the meeting that in total there were 5 hospitals , 5 medical centers and 42 dispensaries, and 48 ambulances currently in working condition under SESSI, all over Sindh. There are positions for 80 specialist doctors, out of which 20 posts are vacant; 355 doctors, from which 130 seats are vacant; 1461 officers /para medical staff, out of which 650 posts are still lying vacant. Due to this shortage of doctors and staff, the delivery of health services is facing drawbacks.
The Provincial Minister of Labor ensured his full support to resolve the issues regarding shortage of staff and removal of hurdles, in order to initiate the recruitment process within the departments.
Furthermore, Mr. Ghulam Murtaza added that he will visit the sites of all ongoing schemes of Labor and Human Resource Department Sindh, to monitor the pace of work and assess the quality of material used for construction and renovation.
He showed belief that the people of Sindh will soon get to witness positive changes in the Labor Department.
