KARACHI: Dr Panjwani Center for Molecular Medicine and Drug Research (PCMD), University of Karachi (UoK), has signed an agreement with the Department of Health, Government of Sindh, for the continuation of operation at the Sindh Forensic DNA and Serology Laboratory (SFDL), University of Karachi.
According to the agreement, Dr Panjwani Center, which works under the umbrella of the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi, will receive RS183,13 million for the uninterrupted operation of the forensic DNA and serology facility at the SFDL.
A spokesman of the ICCBS, University of Karachi, said that the agreement was signed under the supervision of Sindh Provincial Minister for Health and Population Welfare, Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho in the special ceremony, held at the office of the provincial health minister recently.
Sindh Secretary of Health Zulfiqar Ali Shah and Prof Dr M Iqbal Choudhary, Director of the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences, and COMSTECH Coordinator-General, signed the agreement in the ceremony.
Among others who attended the ceremony were Prof Atta-ur Rahman, ICCBS Patron-in-chief and former Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Prof Dr Muhammad Raza Shah, Dr Ishtiaq Ahmad Khan, Dr Shakil Ahmed, Mr Jawaid Riaz, and other officials.
On the occasion, the lady health minister congratulated both parties over the signing of the agreement and said that this agreement would lead the high-tech DNA laboratory to be strengthened in the province.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Iqbal Choudhary also congratulated the provincial minister and other higher officials of the provincial health department for making great efforts in support of the modern laboratory providing the concerned authorities strong support to modernize the justice system in Sindh.
