MULTAN: The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) has expressed serious concerns about the Punjab Health Care Commission's (PHC) approach, alleging that it is failing to curb quackery and instead harassing legitimate doctors.
During a press conference at the local press club, PMA President Masoodur Rauf Haraj criticized the commission for sealing hospitals and clinics without proper investigation and imposing undue fines. He called for an audit of the PHC to address these issues.
Dr. Haraj also praised the ongoing rehabilitation and renovation efforts in hospitals, emphasizing the need for proper patient care. He demanded the government regularize the services of doctors working on an ad-hoc basis and recruit doctors on a permanent basis.
The PMA president announced that doctors would stage a protest on July 24 in Lahore to press the government to meet their demands.
Responding to a question about high medical fees, he remarked that regulating doctors' fees is also the responsibility of the Health Care Commission.
Several other doctors, including Dr. Najeeb Chishti, Dr. Zahid, Khuda Bukash, Dr. Maqbool Alam, Dr. Yousuf Leghari, Dr. Irfan Paracha, Dr. Murtaza Baloch, and Dr. Zulqarnain, were present at the press conference.
