MoU signed for blood diseases institute in Karachi

KARACHI: The Muhammadi Welfare Foundation and the United Medical and Dental College have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the establishment of a cutting-edge Institute of Blood Diseases in partnership with the United Medical Hospital in Karachi.

The signing ceremony was attended by Dr Durr-e-Naz Jamal, Secretary of the Sindh Blood Transfusion Authority (SBTA), as the special guest.

Mr Syed Mehdi Rizvi, Chief Executive Officer of the Muhammadi Welfare Foundation, Dr Dansh Faiz Khan, Director of the United Medical and Dental College, Prof Rafiq Khanani of the Muhammadi Welfare Foundation, Abdul Ghani Sheikh, Project Director, Dr Maeesa Sajeel, Executive Medical Director, Thamar Fatima, Project Coordinator, Ayesha Sheikh, Assistant Director Lab, and Najaf Zaidi, Inventory Officer, were also in attendance.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Rizvi highlighted the need for a blood diseases institute in Karachi, given its huge population and a significant number of thalassemia patients from various areas. The institute aims to provide free medical facilities, addressing the healthcare requirements of the region.

SBTA secretary commended the presentation and the concept of the Muhammadi Welfare Foundation, expressing appreciation for the establishment of free medical facilities for blood diseases. She ordered swift completion of the project.

The Institute of Blood Diseases, once operational, will offer a range of medical facilities, including blood transfusion and laboratory investigations, to patients in Karachi. This collaborative effort underscores a commitment to enhancing healthcare services in the region.
