Jinnah Sindh Medical University is working to improve the academic structure and provide competent healthcare workers. Prof Amjad Siraj Memon, Vice Chancellor JSMU, expressed his satisfaction with the overall management of the JSMU examination system. He said that the increasing number of candidates appearing in the various programmes reflects the course's usefulness for medical professionals and the transparency of the exams carried out by JSMU.
Dr Fatima Abid, Director of Admissions, said that around 240 candidates had applied for the entrance exam of MSPH, out of which 200 were found eligible for several 50 seats. The entrance examination was jointly conducted under the supervision of senior faculty members from APPNA Institute of Public Health-JSMU, Office of Admissions and Examination Department, including Dr Shiraz Sheikh, Associate Professor, Dr Zaeema Ahmer, Assistant Professor, and Dr Anita Shah, Controller Examination.
Earlier, the Institute of Family Medicine-JSMU held the final OSCE for the first batch of Regional Professional Diploma in Family Medicine. The Diploma fulfils the mandate of the World Health Organization to achieve Universal Health Coverage (SDG-3) through training Family Physicians. Both internal and external faculty participated in the OSCE assessments. Internal examiners included Professor Marie Andrades, Chairperson of Institute of Family Medicine-JSMU and Dr Pardeep Kumar, Senior Lecturer.
External examiners included Dr Aiesha Faisal and Dr Gulshan Himani, Consultant Family Physicians belonging to Indus Hospital and Health Network, Dr Anum Arshad Beg, Assistant Professor and Head of Family Medicine, and Dr Zainab Mohammad Anjarwala, Assistant Professor belonging to Dow University of Health Sciences, Dr Fatima Kanwal, Senior Registrar was from Liaquat National Hospital and Medical College, Dr Riaz Ali Shah, Head of Primary Care, SINA Health Education and Health Network, Dr Abida Munir Badini and Dr Mohsin Shahzad, Consultant Family Physicians also participated as examiners.
Master of Health Professions Education (MHPE) scholars batch of 2018 presented their research work in a Project Defense seminar led by the Institute of Medical Education-JSMU. Dr Narmeen Ahmed completed her research work under the supervision of Dr Shaur Sarfaraz and co-supervisor Dr Tazeen Shah from IME, and Dr Irum Khurshid, Associate Professor from Ziauddin University, on the subject "Introduction of Near-Peer Mentorship program in an undergraduate Medical college in Pakistan.", whereas, Dr Shumaila Rafi completed her research work under the supervision of Dr Marie Andrades and co-supervisors Dr Rahat Naz on the subject 'Correlation between levels for stress with levels of empathy in all five years of undergraduate medical students in private medical college.'
Furthermore, Interviews were conducted for the Masters in Health Professions Education (MHPE) applicants, in which 61 candidates contested 25 seats.
According to Dr Fatima Abid, all the candidates were interviewed, and the Institute of Medical Education-JSMU will announce the successful candidates shortly.
