PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reported its first case of polio this year, with a nine-month-old baby girl from Mohmand district contracting the disease.
In response, Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has taken serious notice of the situation and directed an inquiry to identify officials responsible for negligence and inadequate oversight. He has instructed the Secretary of Health to suspend both the District Health Officer and the Polio Coordinator in Mohmand.
The Chief Minister emphasized the need for improved planning and execution of polio vaccination campaigns in the district. “The eradication of the polio virus is a top priority for the KP government,” he stated, urging teachers, religious leaders, and community members to assist in this effort.
Additionally, Gandapur announced that the government would provide treatment for the infected girl. He stressed that the quality of polio vaccinations must be enhanced across all districts to protect children from this debilitating disease.
