1,105 Angioplasties in just 130 days - Minister exalts NICVD’s performance

KARACHI- Feeling exalted over a report that as many as 1,105 primary angioplasties were performed at the NICVD (National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases) in just 130 days (from May 18 to Sept 17), Sindh Minister for Health Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar remarked: “It could possibly be a world record”.

Presiding over a meeting at the NICVD, he said that in the past, a patient travelling from interior Sindh had to make three trips to the health facility’s out-door patient departments (OPDs) for consultation, diagnostic tests and prescription of medicines, but now they have been getting these three basic facilities during their first visit to the hospital.
He added: "Echo department of the NICVD is being improved with seven new machines, one each for paediatrics, Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and ER and other relevant departments and these machines will be operated round-the-clock.”

Moreover, the hospital’s ICU and operation theatres were also being improved and the beds in its adults’ ICU have been increased from 14 to 22, while eight more beds have been provided in its paediatrics’ ICU.

The minister said that when X-ray machines and ventilators have been increased, the number of cardiac surgeries would also increase from 1,300 to 2,500 annually.
