KARACHI: In a collaborative effort, the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD), and the Sindh government have opened 29th Chest Pain and Stroke Unit at the Jinnah PostGraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) here.

Health Minister Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho, alongside NICVD Executive Director Prof Tahir Saghir, SICVD Executive Director Prof Jawaid Akbar Sial, and JPMC Executive Director Prof Shahid Rasul, formally inaugurated the Chest Pain Unit.

The unit offers immediate, cost-free care for patients with chest pain or stroke symptoms, ensuring prompt and efficient treatment.

As part of its expansive network, this unit connects the patients to the main NICVD for advanced cardiac and stroke care, including angiography, angioplasty, cardiac surgeries, and specialized stroke treatments.

This unit will operate in tandem with the main NICVD, where comprehensive cardiac care facilities, including angiography and cardiac surgeries, are available.

NICVD has introduced Chest Pain Units to ensure swift access to critical care services. Operating round the clock, these units provide life-saving emergency care to patients experiencing heart attacks, stabilizing them before transferring to the main NICVD for specialized treatment. This immediate response mechanism significantly contributes to reducing cardiac-related mortality rates.

Over the past seven years, these units have treated over 1.3 million patients and saved more than 31,000 lives by providing immediate first aid and facilitating their transfer to the main NICVD for specialized treatment.
