CPSP meets to discuss delayed Dr. registrations

Islamabad- Over 700 Fellows of College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) have been facing serious problems in their professional lives for nearly seven months, as they are not getting their registrations from the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC).

Recently, a meeting was held in this regard at the CPSP, attended by the members of the Executive Committee and chaired by CPSP President Professor Zafar Ullah Chaudhry. The participants came from all provinces and also from the armed forces.

The members took a serious notice for non registration of the CPSP fellows by the PMDC, without any valid reasons and use of delaying tactics and putting off the orders of honorable courts. This was stated in response to media querries, by the Controller Examination and Elected Councilor at CPSP Islamabad Centre - Prof Shoaib Shafi. He further said that; the degree of CPSP is recognized the world-over respectfully and the CPSP has been awarded as the best college of the world, as it won the Socrates Award in a recent ceremony held at Oxford University.

According to media reports; The members of the committee, during the meeting, termed non-registration of CPSP fellows as unfair and unjustified saying; The countries including Saudi Arabia and Ireland have been benefiting from the educational system of the college (CPSP) while e-log system of the college is being taken as a role model and being appreciated by a number of countries around the globe, said Dr. Shoaib.

The members of the committee expressed their commitment to protect the dignity and prestige of the CPSP fellows and the college which is the highest degree-awarding institution in medical education sector in Pakistan.

He added the committee requested Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif and Minister of State for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination Saira Afzal Tarar to take notice of the issue to resolve the problems being faced by the specialists, the fellows of the CPSP.

Due to registration delays, there are more than 700 suffering doctors and fellows, who have passed FCPS examination from November 2013 to date. Without getting registered by the PMDC, the fellows are unable to apply for jobs on the basis of their qualification, said Dr. Shoaib Shafi adding the fellows are unable to get benefits of their educational achievements, which is certainly unjustified.

He requested the federal government to intervene into the matter and take necessary action to resolve the problems of the CPSP fellows who can be termed as a major strength to the healthcare system of the country.
