Joyful scenes witnessed- Medical fraternity celebrates Independence Day

KARACHI - The medical fraternity across the city celebrated the 68th Independence Day of Pakistan on Aug 14 with traditional zeal and enthusiasm.  The flag-hoisting ceremonies were held at major private and public sector hospitals, including Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center, Civil Hospital Karachi, Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, National Institute of Child Health, National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases and other health care institutions.

Similar joyful ceremonies were also held at Dow University of Health Sciences, Jinnah Sindh Medical University and at several other medical colleges, nursing schools and colleges of the metropolis.

All these joyous ceremonies were attended, among others, by doctors, paramedical staff, nurses and faculty members of the institutions.

All major public and private hospitals buildings were gaily decorated and illuminated to mark the national day.

Several welfare organizations distributed sweets, fruits and other food items among patients and their attendants on the occasion.

Child AID Association (CAA), a non-governmental organization at National Institute of Child Health (NICH), organized a colourful programme for children on the eve of Independence Day. It was followed by a cake-cutting ceremony.

CHK’s medical superintendent Prof Saeed Ahmed Qureshi hoisted the national flag at a ceremony held under the aegis of Sindh Paramedical Staff Welfare Organization.  An Independence Day walk was also held on his occasion.

DUHS: The flag hoisting ceremony held at Ojha Campus of Dow University of Health Sciences was attended, among others, by the university’s vice chancellor Prof Masood Hameed Khan, vice chancellor Prof Muhammad Masroor, pro vice chancellor Prof Junaid Ashraf, Dow Medical College, senior faculty members, administrative officers, heads of various faculties and departments.
The ceremony that began with national anthem was followed by flag-hoisting ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Masood Hameed Khan reminded that Pakistan came into being in the wake of collective sacrifices rendered by thousands of people.

He also paid homage to all those people who devoted their lives for Pakistan’s freedom movement.
Later, special prayers were offered for peace and prosperity of the country.

Speaking at a ceremony held to mark the Independence Day, a leader of Pakistan Medical Association (PMA-Central), Dr SM Qaiser Sajjad, hoped that Pakistan will emerge as a peaceful and prosperous country in the world again.
