SARGODHA: Four more children lost their lives today at Sargodha District Headquarters Hospital nursery, raising the total death toll to 12 within a span of two days.
According to sources, the infants died due to the negligence of the doctors in providing adequate, sufficient oxygen supply to the children. On the 19th of November, a total of 8 infants had died at the hospital. Devastated parents blamed the administration of the hospital for their loss.
All claims of negligence on the part of the hospital administration have been denied by the Executive District Officer Health, who maintains that the hospital is equipped with a fully functional central oxygen system and that no gas deficiencies reports have been made from any ward of the facility.
The nursery of the Sargodha District Headquarters Hospital is the only facility offering infant care in Sargodha Division catering to the treatment needs of children from all adjoining localities including Mianwali, Khushab and Bhakkar.
A team of experts are probing into cause of the incident, preparing a comprehensive report that may explain the deaths of 12 infants. The hospital and its nursing ward have been visited and examined by the Adviser to the Chief Minister for inspection of facilities.
