KARACHI: Dr Syed Mubeen Akhtar, a prominent figure in the field of psychiatry and the founder of Karachi Psychiatric Hospital (KPH), has passed away.
His son, Dr Abdul Rehman, confirmed Dr Akhtar's demise, stating that he had been unwell for the past few weeks and suffered a stroke and an infection, ultimately succumbing to multi-organ failure.
Dr Akhtar, after studying psychiatry and neurology in the US, established KPH in 1970 with a vision to make mental healthcare accessible to all, regardless of financial status. Since its inception, KPH has been dedicated to providing world-class treatment for mental illnesses.
Over the past 44 years, KPH has been addressing the mental health needs of Karachi residents and extending its services nationwide through virtual platforms like Skype.
Dr Akhtar's legacy of compassion and commitment to mental health care will continue to impact countless lives for years to come.
