KARACHI: In a significant move in addressing gender-based violence, Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Center (JPMC) has launched an anti-rape crisis cell dedicated to women victims of violence and sexual abuse.

The inauguration ceremony, presided over by Sindh Health Minister Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho, was also attended by health secretary, JPMC Executive Director Dr. Shahid Rasool, and In-charge Emergency, Nosheen Siddiqui.

This initiative marks the establishment of the first model anti-rape crisis cell in collaboration with UNFPA, the Canadian Donor Agency, and the Legal Aid Society, following the success of a pilot project at the Police Surgeon Office of the Civil Hospital, Karachi.

In accordance with the Anti-Rape Investigation and Trial Act 2021, the Sindh Assembly has approved the establishment of 27 Anti-Rape Crisis Cells across the province, reaffirming the commitment to combating sexual violence and ensuring justice for survivors.
