KARACHI: Dr. Naseem Salahuddin, Head of the Infectious Diseases Department at Indus Hospital, has warned people to take precautions against Congo virus, a viral hemorrhagic fever transmitted from animals to humans, during Eid days.
She says the virus can be transmitted through the bite of an insect on an infected animal or through contact with the blood of an infected animal during or immediately after slaughter.
Dr. Salahuddin advised that people should cover their entire body with long-sleeved clothing and wear closed shoes with socks. She also recommended applying insect repellent to exposed skin and thoroughly checking the body after returning from the market to prevent infection.
