KARACHI: In response to a concerning surge in COVID-19 and influenza cases across Karachi, the Director General (DG) of Health Sindh has issued a critical health advisory aimed at curbing the spread of these infectious diseases. All District Health Officers (DHOs) have been instructed to heighten vigilance and ensure that healthcare facilities under their jurisdiction are adequately prepared to manage the increasing patient load.
The advisory mandates that all doctors, nurses, and paramedical staff don masks while on duty to protect themselves and their patients. Additionally, individuals exhibiting symptoms such as cold, flu, or cough are strongly encouraged to receive appropriate vaccinations to mitigate the severity of their illness and prevent further transmission.
To maintain a comprehensive overview of the situation, DHOs and hospital administrators are required to submit detailed weekly reports of patient cases to the health department. This systematic data collection will facilitate informed decision-making and resource allocation during this critical period.
The DG Health Sindh emphasizes the importance of immediate isolation for patients presenting with respiratory distress, fever, cold, flu, or COVID-19 symptoms. Prompt isolation, coupled with timely medical consultation, is essential to prevent outbreaks within communities.
This proactive approach by the Sindh Health Department underscores the pressing need for public cooperation and adherence to health guidelines to effectively combat the dual threat of COVID-19 and influenza.
