KARACHI: In an important update following the issuance of a health advisory on rising COVID-19 and influenza cases, Sindh Health Minister Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho has called for calm, emphasizing that only seven COVID-positive cases were confirmed out of more than 100 tests conducted.

“COVID is now treated like the flu globally,” Dr. Pechuho explained. “All seven positive cases exhibited mild symptoms and were immediately sent home. People are requested not to panic.”

The health advisory released earlier by the Sindh Health Department had urged heightened vigilance amid concerns about rising respiratory illnesses. It directed district health officers and hospital management to alert their respective teams. Medical staff, including doctors, nurses, and paramedics, were instructed to wear masks, while patients with symptoms such as fever, cough, cold, and respiratory distress were advised to isolate and seek vaccination.

Additionally, hospitals were instructed to submit weekly reports on respiratory cases to the health department. While the advisory aimed to prepare healthcare centers, Dr. Pechuho’s statement serves to reassure the public that the current situation is under control, with no signs of a major outbreak.

To further minimize risks, citizens are encouraged to adopt basic flu and COVID-19 precautions:

  • Wear masks in public places.
  • Wash hands frequently to maintain hygiene.
  • Stay updated on vaccinations for COVID-19 and influenza.

Dr. Azra Pechuho’s reassurance aligns with global trends where COVID-19 is treated as a common flu. By staying informed and following preventive guidelines, the public can protect themselves without undue concern.
