AKUH achieves the SHCC License

KARACHI: The Sindh Healthcare Commission awarded the Sindh Healthcare Commission licence to the Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) as a tribute to the quality and continual development of the care we deliver to our patients.

The licence was granted to acknowledge AKUH's compliance with the provincial healthcare commission's strict quality criteria, based on a comprehensive grasp of the local healthcare scene.

At a ceremony held in the AKU Auditorium on the AKU Stadium Road campus, Dr Ahson Qavi Siddiqi, CEO,  Sindh Health Care Commission, stated, "Quality is an ongoing process that involves exceeding patient expectations; by continually raising the bar and enhancing existing systems." Dr Ahson praised AKUH for its dedication and contributions to the quality of the care offered to patients.

He added that AKUH was the first teaching hospital in Pakistan to receive ISO certification in 2000, the first to receive Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation in 2006, the first to receive College of American Pathologists (CAP) accreditation in 2017, and the first hospital to qualify for a Sindh Health Commission licence after the audit was completed in 2019.

The CEO of The Aga Khan University Hospitals, Pakistan, Dr Shahid Shafi, noted that the licence demonstrates AKUH's dedication to continuously enhancing and improving the quality and standard of care delivered to the people of Sindh and Pakistan.

The Sindh Healthcare Commission is a health regulatory organisation established in 2013 following the passage of a parliamentary bill. 

The regulatory authority monitors the province's healthcare system's operation, which comprises public or private hospitals, non-profit organisations, charitable hospitals, trust hospitals, and semi-government and autonomous healthcare groups.
