DUHS conducts Dice Health Innovation Exhibition’s prize distribution ceremony

KARACHI-  After the success of 4th All-Pakistan DICE Health Innovation Exhibition 2018, held in collaboration with Dow University of Health Sciences and US NGO DICE Foundation, the winners of the program were declared by the panel of judges.

Students from Ziauddin University, Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) and NED University of Engineering and Technology, were announced as first, second and third, respectively.

The announcements were made in the presence of the participants of the exhibition. Chief Guest Mr Sardar Yaseen Malik and Vice Chancellor DUHS, Prof Dr Mohammed Saeed Quraishi, distributed the prizes amongst the position holders.

The ceremony was attended by the Pro -Vice Chancellors of Dow University, Prof Dr. Mohammad Masroor and Prof Dr. Zarnaz Wahid, Chairman DICE Foundation, Mr. Khurshid Qureshi, Dr. Shaheen Sharafat, Sohail Hasan, Zaki Ahmed and Mr. Iqtidar Siddiqi.

Providing details on the award-winning project, Dr. Adil Jamal Akhtar said that the ‘Effortless Automated Phoroptor Device’ presented by the graduates from Faculty of Engineering and Science Technology, Ziauddin University, eye tests can be performed faster than the devices used in the US.

The second scientific project, ‘Bagasse to produce cellulose enzyme’ was prepared by DUHS, which had application in cloth and paper industries. It is a cheap and easily available enzyme, which is being imported at an expensive rate from overseas.

The scientific project awarded third position was by the students of NED University, who made the ‘Improved Nano Hybrid dental composite with minimum shrinkage and improved antibacterial response, acting as a cement in tooth restorative materials.

Dr. Adil Jamal also gave out 10 special awards to other projects that appeared as innovative and efficacious.

These special prizes included the project of Smart Guiding Haptic Feedback Glasses for visually impaired people in indoor environment by Mehran University of Engineering and Technology Jamshoro; Insurematic presented by Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology; Eat Well (Nutrition based Restaurant) by University of Management and Technology; the Biosafety Cabinet for Hospitals and Academic Laboratories by Abdul Wali Khan Mardan University; Chitosan based Hydrogel for the treatment of Diabetic Foot Ulcers by NED University of Engineering Technology; Nutrimor Tea Bags by School of Public Health from Dow University, NASR Walking Assist Device by Karachi University; Edible Cutlery by Dow College of Biotechnology; and Constipation relax formula prepared by Dow University and Nutraceutical and presented by Jinnah University for Women.
