KARACHI - It has recently come to attention that certain public and private nursing institutes in Sindh have been operating without a proper faculty and other necessary facilities for several years, all due to negligence of Sindh Health Department.
The Directorate of Nursing, Sindh, has revealed that an inspection team, which was formed by the Pakistan Nursing Council (PNC) has also been nonoperational due to unknown reasons.
The situation is such that students of government nursing institutes are being forced to perform clinical duties in health facilities covering multiple shifts, due to shortage of trained nurses in government hospitals. In result, those nursing students do not get enough time to study for their theoretical exams.
Meanwhile, the private nursing institutes are charging hefty fees, and are failing to provide the students with trained faculty and other necessary facilities.
The old building of School and College of Nursing, in Karachi, urgently require funds for repair and reconstruction, as these decaying building pose serious threat to its students and other associated staff.
Controller Sindh Nursing Examination Board, Khair-un-Nisa, reported that there had been no shortage of instructors within Karachi’s Nursing institutes, however, Larkana, Jacobabad and other districts urgently require well trained instructors. She also informed that Sindh Health Department had formed an inspection committee of around 100 public and private institutes, to keep the teaching quality and standard of education in check. This inspection team would be conducting surprise visits to various nursing institutes, all over the province of Sindh, in order to improve the overall situation of nursing education.
