YDA Boycotts Hospital Duties to Seek Safety for Their Colleagues

KARACHI-  Members of the Young Doctors Association staged a protest demonstration at Dr. Ruth K.M Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK). They boycotted their duties and expressed disapproval over the inhumane torture done on on-duty doctors, by patient attendants at Surgical Unit-5 . Despite the boycott, all sorts of emergency services continued as per routine.


A large number of YDA doctors staged the sit in, outside the Administration Block and OT Complex for provision of security. They all protested that this was the second incident of abuse and harassment of doctors at CHK within a month.


A number of patients coming from all over Sindh, faced problems in receiving treatment, as some doctors forcibly closed the OPDs and other departments of the hospital, protesting for filing FIR against culprits.


The delegation of YDA arranged a meeting with the Caretaker Health Minister Sindh Dr. Saadia Rizvi, Secretary Health Sindh, Dr. Usman Chachar and Medical Superintendent, CHK, in order to demand provision of security for on-duty doctors.


Health Secretary Sindh  Dr. M Usman Chachar assured that FIR will be launched against culprits on behalf of CHK administration and strict security measures will be taken.


Addition Medical Superintendent, CHK,  Dr. Arif Niaz, stated that, a 3-member inquiry committee has been constituted to probe the incident of violence against doctors. He also added that the enquiry committee was formed in the supervision of AMS Dr. Neelam Jaan.


Furthermore, he informed that FIR has also been lodged against culprits on the behalf of hospital administration.
