Sohail Tanvir urges youth to go for thalassaemia test

Karachi: Prominent cricketer Sohail Tanvir has vowed to work for the elimination of thalassaemia, a blood-related disease, and urged the youth to undergo thalassaemia test before getting married so as to save them from becoming victim of the dreadful disease.

He made this pledge during his visit to Omair Sana Foundation (OSF) where he mingled with the thalassaemia affected children.  OSF’s general secretary Dr Saqib Hussain Ansari presented memorial shield to Sohail Tanvir, while the thalassemia affected children gave him bouquet.

Underscoring the need for creating awareness about thalassaemia among masses, the cricketer said that the media could play a vital role in this regard.

He advised youngsters to ensure that they must undergo thalassaemia test before their marriage as it was the only way to avoid being sorry for the entire life for those families with thalassemia features.

Tanvir, who is a part Karachi Kings, said that mere financial contributions are not enough for the struggle against the disease, but blood donations are also essential for maintaining quality of life of thalassaemia affected patients.

At the outset, he lauded the OSF’s struggle towards making Pakistan a thalassaemia-free country.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Ansari said that cricket stars like Shahid Afridi and Younus Khan are part of Thalassaemia Free Pakistan campaign and Sohail Tanvir’s inclusion in the drive will give fresh impetus to the OSF’s struggle against the dreadful disease.
