KARACHI: Interviews for the posts of Vice Chancellors of Liaquat Medical University Jamshoro and Larkana Medical University have been completed and the search committee has selected three candidates for both medical universities.
Secretary Boards and Universities Mureed Rahmoon expressed his displeasure over the news of inclusion of special candidates based on Grade 17 experience in the search committee meeting.
The names of Akram Ajan, Nusrat Shah and Faisal Ghani Siddiqui were selected for Liaquat Medical University, while the names of Hakem Abro, Nusrat Shah and Akbar Bhand were approved for the post of Vice Chancellors of Larkana Medical University.
The names of Nusrat Shah, Faisal Ghani Siddiqui and Hakim Abro were not included among the 13 candidates who were finalized for both medical universities, but when 17 grade experience was included, not only these candidates were also included in the interview and they were also placed on the top.
Among the 13 candidates who were declared eligible as a result of the first scrutiny are Dr Ali Akbar Bhand, Dr Bika Ram, Dr Ikramuddin Ajan, Dr Khalid Talpur, Dr Mehrul Nasa, Dr Sogra, Dr Zulfiqar Soomro, Dr Akbar Syal, Dr Saifullah. Jamro, Dr Safdar Ali Sheikh, Dr Iqbal Afridi, Dr Qurban Ali Rahu and Moeen Ansari were included. However, by adding scrutiny and grade 17 experience again, the number of candidates increased from 29.
It should be noted that Hakim Ali Abaro was made Acting VC of Larkana University Medical despite being ranked fourth and based on grade 17 experience in the health department which was challenged in the court and the court removed Hakim Abaro, now there is no acting VC for three months.
Professor Nusrat Shah is the Pro Vice Chancellor of Dow Medical University, whereas a retired professor cannot be the Pro Vice Chancellor under any circumstances.
The notification of the appointment of Nusrat Shah is also strange as the term of office is not mentioned.
Earlier, 11 provincial chancellors were dismissed on the basis that they were retired, but this time their RMO experience in the medical ward has also been included.
The meeting was chaired by the head of the search committee, Dr Tariq Rafi. In the meeting, Secretary Board Mureed Rahmoon, Dr Naushad Sheikh, Dr Saeed Qureshi and Secretary College Education Ahmed Bakhsh Narejo, participated.
A member of the search committee said that Tariq Rafi was presiding, but the number sheet in the meeting, the secretary took the boards along with the signature of the marks sheet, now the summary will be sent to the Chief Minister of Sindh on behalf of the Boards and Universities Department.
