ISLAMABAD: Introducing a distinctive logo on the Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) for voluntary organ donors, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has unveiled a national initiative to promote organ donation.
“Individuals who register as organ donors will be marked with a special logo on their National Identity Cards, symbolising their commitment to giving the gift of life,” the prime minister announced in his message on International Identity Day.
He described organ donation as a noble act that can offer a new lease of life to those in need. "I urge all citizens to join this initiative and become part of a life-saving community," he added.
Highlighting the significance of identity, the prime minister remarked, "On International Identity Day, we reflect on the vital role identity plays in our society. It is not merely a form of recognition but a cornerstone of inclusion, representation, and access to essential services."
He called for collective efforts to create a more inclusive society where every individual's rights are recognised and respected.
"I appeal to citizens, civil society, and government institutions to unite in raising awareness about the importance of identity issues," he said.
Shehbaz also stressed the need to address gaps in the national registration and biometric systems, urging the adoption of digital solutions to streamline service access and improve identity verification accuracy.
“As we move forward with these initiatives, my government remains committed to enacting policies that promote transparency and accountability. This will build trust among citizens, encourage greater civic participation, and strengthen the democratic fabric of our nation,” he concluded.
