NIH confirms sixth mpox case in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The National Institute of Health (NIH) on Tuesday confirmed the detection of Pakistan’s sixth monkeypox case, according to a technical report.
The disease has been detected in a 44-year-old male resident of Gujrat in Punjab, who had arrived in the country from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on 14th September.
After exhibiting symptoms, the patient was isolated, and tests later confirmed the presence of the monkeypox virus. Authorities are currently testing members of his family, NIH sources said.
Pakistan has now recorded six mpox cases, five of which originated in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
