Karachi: Shortage of latest equipments and skilled instructors has added to the miseries of visiting patients, and under-training technicians in Physiotherapy Department of Civil Hospital Karachi.
An official of Physiotherapy Department CHK on condition of anonymity said that visiting patients were facing problems due to lack of equipment that helps patients recover efficiently from injures and medical conditions. He said that some machines were out of order and the department administration had made no efforts in having them repaired.
He said physical therapy of patients was carried out to help, treat and restore damaged muscles. He said physical and mental exercises can also rehabilitate patients from injuries. He further added that the treadmills and running machines at the facility have been out of order since last few years.
Officials stated that there were no skilled instructors for trainee technicians who enrolled in the department for one year training after submitting administration fees. They said that generally no skilled instructors or physiotherapists are available to train technicians in department and students have no choice but to learn everything by themselves. Approximately 60-70 patients visit the facility on daily basis, they explained.
Medical Superintendent, CHK, Prof Dr M Saeed Qureshi when contacted said that he will speak to the Head of Department Dr Shama regarding students training, and new machines would be installed in department soon.
