HIV/AIDS; No Longer an Epidemic in Sindh

KARACHI- Chief Minister, Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah stated that the Provincial Government became  successful, in terms of controlling the spread of HIV/AIDS, through effective awareness drives.

While speaking at a UN delegation led by Eamonn Murphy Director, Asia Pacific Regional Support team, Chief Minister Sindh mentioned that they have given top most priority to health services and have been noticing good results, after partnering up with private health sectors. He further added that the Provincial Government has been putting real efforts in the HIV/AIDS Program, due to which it isn’t termed as an epidemic anymore.

This delegation consisted of Mr. Neil Buhne UN Resident Coordinator, Dr. Mamadou L.Sakho,  Dr. Maria Elen G Filio Borromeo, Dr. Fahmida Iqbal Khan, Dr. Rajwal Khan and Taufiq Baqali. The Chief Minister was assisted by Chairman P&D Mohammad Waseem, Principal Secretary to CM Sohail Rajput, Program Manager Sindh AIDS Control Program Dr. Mohammad Younis Chachar and others.

Moreover, the Chief Minister informed that the Provincial Government has passed a legislation namely, “Sindh HIV and AIDS Control Treatment and Protection Act” 2013. This act highlights the vision, sense of ownership along with extended role of Sindh Government in fighting against HIV/AIDS, in order to eliminate stigma and discrimination. CM, Syed Murad Ali, thanked the UNAIDS Program for supporting and guiding the Provincial Government to fight against HIV/AIDS.

Dr. Younis Chachar, Program Manager, Sindh Aids Control Program, gave a brief presentation regarding the efforts of our government in preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS.

P&D Chairman Mohammad Waseem briefed the delegation about various schemes launched to control HIV/AIDS. The visiting delegation lauded the efforts of the Provincial Government and thanked the Chief Minister for his support.
