An emergent meeting of Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Centre and PMA Karachi was held at PMA House Karachi on 18th March 2014, Prof. S.Tipu Sultan - the immediate Past President of PMA presided the meeting. It was attended by Dr. Mirza Ali Azhar, Dr. S.M.Qaisar Sajjad, Dr. Muhammad Idrees Adhi, Dr. Qazi Muhammad Wasiq, Dr. Shaukat Malik, Dr. Aziz Khan Tank, Dr. Ahmed Bhimani, Dr. Khalil Mukadam, Dr. Serajuddaula Syed,  Dr. Najum F. Mahmudi, Dr. Shershah Syed and many other senior members of the association.

The meeting strongly condemned the brutal murder of renowned Family Physician Dr. Shaukat N. Nayani, in Federal B.Area Karachi. Dr. Shaukat N.Nayani, was moving towards his Clinic after parking his car when two armed pillion riders attacked him and fled.

According to a statement issued by the PMA: Killing and Kidnapping of doctors has become a debilitating menace for the healthcare profession. Medical Practitioners are being killed, either in the name of sectarian killing or targeted murders. It seems that the Government of Sindh is totally ignoring its responsibility to provide safety and security to these qualified and valuable citizens. The Law enforcing agencies have miserably failed to apprehend and punish these criminals to end such crimes.

Unfortunately, The Judiciary is also not taking any serious notice of the situation, which has now persisted since a long time, creating a sense of fear and unrest among the medical fraternity, as well as society in general. Apparently, the government is not interested in providing security to the doctors and does not want to improve the law and order situation in the province.

The senior PMA officials and leading doctors have demanded from the Federal Interior Minister, Chief Minister of Sindh, Chief Secretary, IG Police, DG Rangers and all other state institutions, which are responsible to maintain the law and order, to take an urgent notice and arrest the culprits.

The PMA also demanded that every doctor and health worker should be allowed to carry ammunition for self protection.
