KARACHI: A major theft of medicines worth millions of rupees has been uncovered at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD).
Reports indicate that this alleged theft at the pharmacy department has been ongoing for several years, with an estimated Rs1.5 million to Rs2 million worth of medicines stolen each month.
Following multiple complaints, NICVD Executive Director Prof. Tahir Sagheer has suspended the Head of the Pharmacy Department, Gibran Bin Yusuf, over the alleged theft and negligence. A departmental investigation has been initiated against him.
Sources within NICVD revealed that other employees are also implicated in the theft, prompting further investigations.
The NICVD administration plans to involve the Sindh Anti-Corruption Department for a more comprehensive inquiry.
