LAHORE: Obesity, a leading cause of numerous health complications, can be effectively managed through lifestyle changes, experts emphasized at a workshop titled “Lifestyle Medicine: Paradigm Shift for Women’s Health,” organized by Lahore General Hospital’s Gynecology Unit-3.

Prof. Dr. Al-Fareed Zafar, Principal of the hospital, stressed the importance of adopting healthy habits to prevent obesity and its associated diseases. He highlighted that regular exercise and walking not only aid in weight management but also improve overall mental and physical health.

“Women, in particular, can significantly reduce their risk of diseases by making simple adjustments to their lifestyle, diet, and daily routines. This will also reduce unnecessary dependence on medications,” Dr. Zafar stated.

Dr. Zafar underlined the dangers of unhealthy eating habits and the importance of maintaining adequate vitamin levels, especially for women by explaining:

“Women’s vitamin needs are higher than men’s, and deficiencies can lead to various illnesses. A balanced diet is crucial for preventing these health issues.”

Dr. Zafar urged gynecologists to educate patients about the benefits of healthy living, discourage self-medication, and recommend consulting qualified physicians for proper treatment.

The workshop featured expert insights from leading professionals:

  • Professor Ambreen Haider shared practical tips on maintaining a healthy diet and the risks of self-medication.
  • Professor Nudrat Sohail emphasized the prevention of obesity and heart disease by avoiding junk food and sugar.

Dr. Zafar praised the efforts of Prof. Amna Ahsan Cheema, Dr. Saira Fayyaz, Dr. Laila Shafiq, and their team for organizing the event. He expressed hope that such initiatives would continue to raise awareness and improve public health.

The workshop was attended by prominent gynecologists, including Dr. Shabnam Muhammad Ali, Dr. Misbah Kausar, Dr. Maryam Zulfiqar, and Dr. Mehwish Ilyas.
