Death Threat To Our Country’s Children - Pneumonia and Diarrhea continues to be the Leading Cause of Death amongst Children

KARACHI- Health Officials from the Government of Sindh and Mirpurkhas District, alongside researchers from Aga Khan University (AKU), will be sharing initial findings from Nigraan Plus, a community research and management intervention, as to why Pneumonia and Diarrhoea continues to be the leading cause of death among our country’s children on March 27, 2018 at Aga Khan University.

Experts will share insights from a study conducted on 4,000 mothers and caregivers on the real-world barriers to detecting and treating these preventable diseases at an early stage.

The event will also address the Sindh Health Department to launch a major upgrade within the curriculum of lady health supervisors, enrolled in Lady Health Worker Program, a move aimed at enhancing the vital door-to-door healthcare services in Pakistan.

Nigraan Plus in Mirpurkhas was launched during February 2017 and represents an upscaling of the two-year Nigraan project in Badin district, which concluded in 2015.

Nigraan Plus is part of the Umeed-e-Nau Project, that is being implemented by Aga Khan University (AKU), in collaboration with Pakistan’s Provincial Health Ministries with the support of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
