KARACHI: The Sindh Infectious Diseases Hospital has initiated a diphtheria booster vaccination campaign for its medical staff, including doctors, nurses, after a staff member contracted diphtheria recently.
Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) Vice Chancellor Prof. Saeed Qureshi says diphtheria is affecting not only children but also adults.
In response to the situation, he said, the hospital administration confirmed that 50pc of its staff have already received the booster shot.
Health experts have advised that medical personnel, particularly those working in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and dealing directly with diphtheria cases, should be prioritised for booster shots.
They also called for restructuring and revitalising Sindh's immunisation programme, which has faced significant challenges.
