LAHORE: As many as 172 new dengue cases have been reported across Punjab in the past 24 hours, with Rawalpindi accounting for 157 of these cases, confirms provincial health department.
As per health authorities, Lahore reported eight cases, Jhelum recorded two, while Gujranwala, Chakwal, Attock, Sargodha, and Okara each reported one case.
The surge in cases over the past week brings the total number of dengue infections in Punjab this year to 3,771.
Health department says that adequate measures are in place to tackle the outbreak, including a sufficient supply of medicine in public hospitals.
To tackle the situation, authorities issued an advisory urging residents to maintain clean, dry environments to curb the spread of the dengue virus.
The public was also encouraged to cooperate with health teams working to contain the outbreak. A dedicated helpline (1033) has been set up for those seeking treatment or wanting to register complaints regarding dengue.
